Products: MIL-STD-1553 Data Bus Couplers

There are two types of couplers to choose from; The In-Line type or the flange-mounted BNC connector Box-type.

In-line couplers generally offer significantly lower weight and are usually mounted by lacing them into cable bundles or securing them to bulkheads with a clamp.

Box-type couplers, although heavier, offer the advantage of easy fault isolation, flexibility in updating when a bus configuration changes, and are easy to install and repair.

A comprehensive tutorial on data bus is found in Application Note 251: Factors in the Selection of MIL-STD-1553 Couplers, Connectors and Harnesses

MIL-STD-1553 In-line Data Bus Couplers:
  • In-Line - Micro Couplers
Flight qualified units are available both with and without internal terminations.

  • In-Line MIL-STD-1553 Quik Clik Couplers
Quik-Clik couplers provide a way to reduce the number of connectors and solder joints in the network, thereby improving reliability significantly.

  • In-Line - Thru-Hole Mounted Couplers
For applications where lacing into a cable bundle or mounting using a clamp is not practical. These couplers are flight qualified and have successfully completed a 1000 hour life test at +125°C and 100% duty cycle.

  • In-Line Mini Couplers
  • Sub-Miniature Couplers
A series of miniature data bus couplers for programs that are weight sensitive and have limited space and volume for installation.

Miscellaneous Data Bus Couplers:

  • Printed Circuit Board Mounted Couplers
Enables the 1553 network designer to minimize the number of connectors by mounting the couplers on a printed circuit board within the power and signal distribution box.

  • Internally Terminated Couplers
All North Hills' data bus couplers are now available with dual bus terminators internally mounted. This can simplify implementation of small networks (up to 8 stubs) significantly by eliminating the expense, inconvenience and parts count of external terminators.

MIL-STD-1553 Box-Type Data Bus Couplers:

  • Box Type Single-Stub Couplers

  • Box Type Multi-Stub Couplers
Full line of single and multi- stub couplers for MIL-STD-1553. North Hills Couplers have better than 55 dB common mode rejection and are supplied in a solder sealed case for superior environmental, EMI and corrosion protection.

  • Ultra Compact Data Bus Box Couplers
Utilizing a low profile design and lightweight robust construction, the Ultra Compact Data Bus Coupler deliver big advantages with same superior electrical performance at a fraction of the size.  This coupler is the ideal solution for programs that are weight sensitive and have limited space and volume for installation.
